Green Events at Climate Lab
We support clients with the organization of “Green Events” and can certify them with the Austrian Ecolabel under our license. Climate Lab is also a certified Green Location, which means that many of the criteria are already fulfilled and our trained staff can assist you with the final steps.
What is a Green Event?
Green Events are designed to minimize their environmental footprint and reduce their impact on the planet. This involves a wide range of measures, such as waste reduction, the use of renewable energy and the promotion of eco-friendly transportation options. Green Events also raise awareness among participants about environmental issues, demonstrating that sustainable practices are both necessary and achievable on a large scale.
Resource conservation is a key aspect of Green Events. Organizers can select sustainable materials, prioritize reusing and recycling whenever possible, and ensure efforts are made to generate as little waste as possible (i.e. avoiding the use of single-use plastics in favor of sustainable reusables).
Green Events also prioritize selecting venues and service providers that operate in an environmentally-friendly manner (such as Climate Lab!). This can include energy-efficient equipment, sourcing regional and organic food, using fair-trade products, and providing climate-neutral transportation options.
By implementing these measures, Climate Lab can certify your Green Event with the Austrian Ecolabel. This certification is regulated by the Austrian Ministry for Climate Action and verifies that an event upholds a very high standard of environmental protection.
Green Location
Our main event venue complies with the highest standards of environmental protection in Austria. In December 2023, the Climate Stage and Creative Loft received certification as a Green Location by the Austrian Ecolabel, a widely recognized, rigorous, certification process regulated by the Austrian Ministry for Climate Action. The Ecolabel verifies a location’s compliance with environmental standards regarding both infrastructure and the quality of its offerings.
Our Actions
Transportation
We encourage organizers and participants to use environmentally-friendly travel options when they come to Climate Lab. We’re centrally located in Vienna—just a four-minute walk from the U4/U6 Spittelau station—and there is a bike-sharing station right next to our building.
Energy & carbon footprint
We support our clients to develop concepts for conserving energy and resources, and minimizing the carbon footprint of their Green Events. Additionally, our venue is outfitted with energy-efficient equipment and optimized to make the best use of natural daylight.
Food & beverages
We attach great importance to regional, seasonal and organic food. In addition to vegetarian menus, we also offer vegan and allergen-free alternatives. We have firmly integrated measures to avoid food waste throughout our venue.
Waste management
We provide reusable dishes and cutlery to reduce waste. We strongly recommend using promotional items sparingly and to avoid using disposable products as much as possible. Unavoidable waste is separated and recycled or disposed of.
Equipment & furnishings
We selected our equipment and furnishings based on criteria such as longevity, environmentally-friendly materials, circular production, energy efficiency, sound absorption and aesthetics.
Social responsibility
Inclusion and participation are important to us. We make sure that all events are accessible, and we work with service providers who take social responsibility seriously.
Communication
We provide our clients with comprehensive information about the benefits of Green Events and support them in implementing appropriate measures. We strive to involve all stakeholders at an early stage, which makes a significant contribution to the sustainability of the event.
