How can we shape an ecologically sustainable future if our collective patterns of thought and action are rooted in an unsustainable past? What new tools do we need to successfully shape the next economy? What forms of collaboration can support a stable and resilient future within planetary boundaries?
In this Open Space, we examine the dominant, unsustainable patterns of our natural resource use over the past decades. Through this retrospective, we explore which internal and external lock-in effects are at work on our companies (from corporations to startups). We work together to understand why—despite our stated intentions—we often (have to) operate within the logic of extractive, fossil-fuel-based operations.
The tension between good intentions and real possibilities reveals the weakness of learning from the past. With the help of Theory U, which makes learning from the future accessible to us, we explore concrete strategies for leaving the long path of unsustainable action behind us.
