Sustainability in Sport: FIFA WM 2026

In the context of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, we’re going to work on a topic that’s gaining a lot of momentum right now: sustainability in sports.

ISO 20121 is increasingly being required in tenders, sponsors are asking for travel data, and fan mobility remains an unresolved issue with regards to carbon emissions for nearly every major sporting event. Yet, in Austria, the tourism, sports and mobility sectors often talk right past one another. That’s exactly what we’re aiming to change. On this evening, we are bringing together stakeholders from politics, event organizers and sponsors—and not for a traditional panel, but a fishbowl: four Q&A rounds, each opened by a partner organization. Invited guests include Sport Austria, Wien Energie, ÖFB, SK Rapid Wien, and ÖBB. Anyone else who wants to join the conversation, please step up!

Starting at 21:00 PM: Joint public viewing of the World Cup match

Who is this for? For anyone working at the intersection of sports, mobility, sustainability, and events—or simply curious about how a major event can become more climate-friendly. Spots are limited. Secure your ticket!

This evening event is presented by the Climate Lab & Impact Hub Vienna communities, and was initiated by members Matthew Campelli from Touchline Earth and Michael Jayasekara from vionmo.

Note: This is not an official FIFA event.

Location: Climate Lab, 8th floor
