On a recent Tuesday, a group of otherwise stylishly dressed coworkers traded their sandals for sneakers, donned bright red hard hats, and trudged up the stairs. They’d heard the pounding through the walls, now they were going to see it for themselves.
Sinziana Satmarean pushes open the door to the 10th floor, revealing stark concrete floors, wires hanging down from the ceiling and piles of drywall tracks. Sinzi has been part of the team responsible for designing the three new floors of Climate Lab’s coworking space in Vienna Spittelau.
„The climate community has taken a hit in the last year, but we know that the ‚Klimawende‘ needs long-term commitment. That’s why we’re expanding our space – so that everyone working on climate and circular economy can have a place to come to,“ Sinzi explains.
The group walks carefully through the dust as Sinzi describes the space she has been designing for over a year now. A community kitchen, small meeting rooms perfect for long calls. And on this side, the „Sunset“ coworking area – aptly named as the evening sun washes even the coldest concrete with a warm glow.
As Sinzi walks the group back towards the exit, the chatter leads to questions about a favorite topic in the Climate Lab – circularity. One that will have to be saved for a later story from the Climate Lab expansion.
